Three Deadly Collisions Strike McHenry County in 12 Hours

Heightened traffic patrols are in place as investigators probe three deadly collisions that claimed three lives, including an 11-year-old child

Overview

  • On Monday around 6:45 p.m., an 18-year-old Huntley driver in a Ford Transit van failed to yield at Deerpass Road and struck a 2012 Audi Q5, killing the 11-year-old passenger and injuring both drivers.
  • Just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, a 50-year-old Belvidere man driving a 2011 Dodge Ram crossed the centerline on Kishwaukee Valley Road and was struck by a westbound 2023 Mack truck, resulting in his death.
  • At 6:56 a.m., a 35-year-old Harvard man in a 1997 GMC Sierra veered off Hebron Road, hit a utility pole, flipped onto its roof and died at the scene.
  • The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Coroner’s Office have launched investigations into all three crashes and deployed directed patrols to target speeding, distracted driving and impaired operation.
  • Woodstock, Harvard and Marengo fire and EMS crews responded through oppressive heat to back-to-back incidents, highlighting the strain on emergency resources and regional coordination.
