Overview

• The July 28 shooting began around 7:25 a.m. when the suspect opened fire in the Grand Sierra Resort valet area, firing approximately 80 rounds after his weapon initially jammed.
• Two 23-year-old men visiting for a bachelor party and a 66-year-old Reno resident were killed, while three others sustained gunshot wounds.
• Sparks Police Department, supported by Reno PD and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, is leading the investigation under protocols for officer-involved shootings.
• Investigators have identified the suspect as 26-year-old Dakota Hawver, who remains in critical condition after officers returned fire.
