Three Dead in Globe, Arizona Floods as Mayor Declares Emergency

Overview

  • Officials said more people may be unaccounted for as search teams from Maricopa County, Pinal County and the Department of Public Safety comb washes and damaged areas.
  • Gila County Emergency Management urged residents to shelter in place due to possible hazardous materials in floodwaters and to stay off roads and outdoor areas.
  • Roughly 1,000 propane tanks were swept downstream, with on-scene video showing tanks in floodwaters and reports of leaking gas.
  • ADOT reopened U.S. 60 in both directions near mileposts 249–252 and restored eastbound access at Superior where it meets SR 177 after overnight clearing.
  • Evacuation shelters were opened at Lee Kornegy Intermediate School in Miami and High Desert Middle School in Globe, as downtown structures sustained significant damage including the Wild Horses Saloon.
