Three Culiacán Hospitals Attacked Within Hours, Leaving at Least Five Dead

Officials link the assaults to the factional fight inside the Sinaloa cartel.

Overview

  • An evening shooting outside the Hospital Civil on Aug. 29 left three people dead and at least four wounded, including a 13-year-old girl.
  • Hours later on Aug. 30, gunmen entered a private clinic and the Hospital General, with assailants posing as medical staff to execute patients inside.
  • The Sinaloa state security ministry said the Grupo Interinstitucional secured the sites and managed traffic restrictions, and no arrests had been reported.
  • Local reports identified two victims at the Hospital Civil as Jorge and Rubén, and named the Hospital General victim as Fausto Yuriel, known as “El Chino Pelucas.”
  • The attacks follow months of escalated violence tied to the Chapitos–Mayos dispute, with prior assaults on medical facilities reported earlier this year.
