Three Coquitlam RCMP Officers Face Dismissal Over Racist, Sexist, and Homophobic Chat Messages

An internal probe reveals shocking misconduct by officers, leading to calls for their termination and a comprehensive review of their cases.

Constables Philip Dick, Ian Solven, and Mersad Mesbah have been suspended since June 2021 and are facing code of conduct hearings next March.
The officers allegedly made racist, sexist, and homophobic comments in private chat groups on WhatsApp and Signal, as well as on RCMP internal systems.
Graphic examples include jokes about Tasering unarmed Black people, derogatory remarks about women, and belittling Indigenous people.
B.C. Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth expressed outrage, calling the behavior 'absolutely disgusting' and not representative of RCMP values.
The investigation has prompted discussions about the need for improved recruiting and mentoring within police forces to prevent such misconduct.
