Three Children Killed in Kentucky House Fire as Probe Continues

State police have opened an active investigation into the cause, with further updates expected.

  • The blaze broke out just before midnight on Dec. 23 on Upper Dry Fork Road in McKee, Jackson County.
  • Three children—ages 7 months, 2 and 3—were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Kentucky State Police.
  • A 4-year-old was taken to UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington and later transferred to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for additional treatment.
  • Three adults—23-year-old Tyler Monst, 22-year-old Morgan Johnson and 76-year-old Florence Johnson, all of McKee—were injured and taken to UK Chandler Hospital.
  • Detective Anthony Bowling of KSP Post 7 is leading the case with assistance from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, local fire departments including Sand Gap Volunteer Fire Department, and the county coroner.
