Officials say the case remains under investigation with counseling available for classmates.

Overview

  • Family members identified the victims as Howard, 6, Kaleb, 8, and EJ, 9.
  • Authorities said the boys fell through ice on a private pond off Rec Road 3 near Bonham, across from a house where the family was staying.
  • First responders and a neighbor pulled the two older boys from the water and rushed them to a hospital, and the youngest was recovered after a search; all three were pronounced deceased.
  • Their mother, Cheyenne Hangaman, said she jumped into the freezing water to try to save them but her body seized up and a neighbor pulled her out.
  • The Fannin County Sheriff’s Office and multiple agencies report an active investigation, Bonham ISD has counselors for students and staff, and community fundraising is underway as Winter Storm Fern has caused more than 40 deaths nationally.
