Three Arrested in Connection with Killing of Off-Duty North Carolina Officer

Sergeant Philip Dale Nix was shot while attempting to stop a robbery at a gas station; the suspects face charges of murder and larceny.

Sergeant Philip Dale Nix, a 23-year veteran of the Greensboro Police Department, was shot and killed while off-duty after attempting to intervene in a robbery at a Sheetz gas station in Colfax, North Carolina.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing: Jamere Justice Foster, 18, Z’quriah Le’Pearce Blackwell, 18, and John Walter Morrison, 28.
Foster has been charged with first degree murder, larceny, and conspiracy to commit larceny and is being held without bond. Morrison and Blackwell have been charged with accessory after the fact to first degree murder, with Morrison also facing charges of larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny.
The crime that Sergeant Nix attempted to stop was a theft of over $83 worth of beer, according to warrants obtained by local FOX affiliate WGHP-TV.
The investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges being added.
