Overview

• On July 23, suspects abducted Chandan Maurya, his cousin and a friend, stripping them, beating them with rods and forcing them to chant slogans and drink urine.
• Police have charged Shahabuddin, Anas and Zeeshan under serious offences, rescued the victims and recovered the vehicle used in the abduction.
• Additional SP Durga Prasad Tiwari said initial findings suggest a personal feud and that religious slogan allegations remain unverified.
• Victims allege the attackers operated an online “Baba Group” ring using fake Hindu profiles on Instagram and WhatsApp to lure and entrap individuals.
• The extended inquiry will examine allegations of deleted digital evidence and verify forced-chant and online entrapment claims.
