By enabling users to opt in for a reverse-chronological stream of posts from federated platforms within Threads, the app broadens content discovery beyond its native network.

Overview

  • Threads has rolled out a dedicated fediverse feed at the top of its Following tab for users who opt in to fediverse sharing.
  • The separate feed displays posts from followed federated accounts in reverse chronological order without algorithmic ranking or moderation interference.
  • Users can now search for fediverse profiles directly within Threads using handles like “@username@domain” to connect with users on Mastodon, Bookwyrm, WriteFreely and Flipboard.
  • The fediverse integration remains optional, segregated from the main Following and For You feeds to ensure clarity around content moderation and identity.
  • Threads has interacted with more than 75 percent of all fediverse servers since launching fediverse sharing a year ago, reflecting Meta’s commitment to responsible growth of the decentralized social network.
