Thousands Flock to Shiva Shrines in Uttar Pradesh on First Sawan Monday

Drones, CCTV cameras with Rapid Response Force units managed crowds at heritage and urban temples in Sambhal, Lucknow and Varanasi.

Overview

  • At Sambhal’s Kartikeya Mahadev Temple, reopened in December after 46 years, devotees conducted Rudrabhishek and Jalabhishek ceremonies for the first Sawan Monday.
  • In Lucknow, Mankameshwar and Buddheshwar temples recorded the largest turnouts as worshippers chanted Har Har Mahadev and bought traditional offerings in sultry conditions.
  • In Varanasi, Yadav Bandhus led Jalabhishek rituals with Gangajal at Baba Kashi Vishwanath Temple while long queues extended from ghats to temple gates.
  • Local police, Rapid Response Force units, CCTV surveillance and drones were deployed along key pilgrimage routes to monitor movements and ensure safety.
  • The 24-Kosi Parikrama Samiti announced weekly Rudrabhishek ceremonies at four additional Shiva temples in Sambhal to sustain devotional activities throughout Sawan.
