Thomson Medical Launches RM18 Billion Johor Bay Project in JohorSingapore SEZ

The waterfront plan targets cross-border patients by placing a 500-bed hospital at a site steps from the RTS Link.

Overview

  • Thomson Medical unveiled Johor Bay, a 26-acre integrated healthcare and mixed-use development with a gross development value of about RM18 billion (US$4.3 billion) inside the JohorSingapore Special Economic Zone.
  • The project is anchored by Thomson Hospital Iskandariah with 500 beds expandable to 1,000, alongside specialist suites, aged-care and assisted living facilities, a life sciences tower, a 47-storey residential tower, a five-star hotel, and commercial-lifestyle precincts.
  • Construction is slated to start in 2026, with phase one—covering parts of the hospital and the 47-storey tower—targeted for completion within four years.
  • Thomson Medical says initial operations for parts of the hospital will coincide with the Johor Bahru–Singapore RTS Link coming online at end-2026.
  • The company projects more than 1,200 jobs in the first phase, and its Singapore-listed shares jumped as much as 39% the day after the launch announcement.
