Thomas Moosmann Retires After Nearly 45 Years Supporting U.S. Army in Germany

His departure highlights more than four decades of host-nation service that laid the groundwork for ongoing equipment readiness

  • Thomas Moosmann stepped down on July 31, 2025, after 44 years and 10 months as a German host-nation employee at Baumholder’s POV inspection station and BASOPS Maintenance facility.
  • At his farewell, Stephanie Kramer and Operations Chief Stefan Pfister presented him with certificates signed by Col. Ernest Lane II, a retirement certificate, and a U.S. Army Civilian Service Achievement Medal.
  • Moosmann’s career began in 1980 with participation in REFORGER exercises and included service at Rose Barracks before transferring to Smith Barracks in Baumholder in 1999.
  • He credited his BASOPS team as neighbors and friends within the close-knit Baumholder community and said he will most miss their camaraderie.
  • BASOPS Maintenance leadership pledged to uphold its mission of consolidated equipment upkeep and mechanical safety inspections under new supervision.
