Thomas Ingenlath Returns to Volvo as Chief Design Officer on Feb. 1

The appointment is meant to reinforce design leadership during a sales downturn.

Overview

  • Volvo says Ingenlath will take the role on 1 February and lead design for the company’s next-generation models.
  • He succeeds Jeremy Offer, who resigned as head of design in July 2025.
  • CEO Håkan Samuelsson endorsed the move, saying it will strengthen Volvo’s design leadership and keep products aligned with the brand’s values.
  • Ingenlath previously overhauled Volvo’s design language from 2012 to 2017 before serving as Polestar’s CEO until 2024 and later advising Geely in 2025.
  • The news accompanies Volvo’s 2025 results showing 710,042 global sales, down 7% year on year, with fully electric volumes off 13% and continued weakness in China.
