Thomas Gottschalk’s TV Farewell Airs Saturday as RTL Confirms Final Trio Show

The 75-year-old, undergoing cancer treatment, will watch from the sidelines as a yet-unannounced guest fills his seat.

Overview

  • Gottschalk said on Instagram that viewers should tune in to his last Denn sie wissen nicht, was passiert!, noting donations to ZDF’s concurrent Ein Herz für Kinder are welcome but “watched will be with me.”
  • RTL stated the December 6 broadcast is the last in which Gottschalk, Günther Jauch and Barbara Schöneberger appear together, and it described the night as a celebratory send-off.
  • Because of his illness, Gottschalk will attend as a guest rather than compete or host, with the broadcaster keeping his on-air replacement under wraps.
  • Coverage reports he was diagnosed in July with an epithelioid angiosarcoma, underwent major surgery and about 30 radiotherapy sessions, and is taking strong opioid pain medication.
  • Away from the studio, he and wife Karina are moving to Gräfelfing near Munich and plan a quiet Christmas spent between unpacked boxes.
