Thirteen Capitals Declare Dec. 8 Holiday as Cities Detail Services and Traffic Plans

Local agencies released service hours alongside transit plans for Monday’s observances.

  • Dia de Nossa Senhora da Conceição is not a national holiday, but 13 of Brazil’s 27 capitals will observe it on Monday, with workers entitled to double pay or compensatory rest where they are required to work.
  • Salvador published a full liturgical agenda and a major procession, and Transalvador set fixed, semi-fixed and progressive mobile barriers with street closures and detours in the Comércio area.
  • Maceió’s transit authority (DMTT) will run a special bus timetable calibrated to downtown commerce and shopping-center hours, with specified lines operating between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Municipal administrations in cities such as São Luís, Aracaju, Cuiabá and Campinas announced closure of nonessential offices for the holiday, while health urgencies, sanitation, civil defense and security remain on duty.
  • Retail and malls will open on special or optional schedules in multiple cities, including Salvador, Manaus, João Pessoa and Campina Grande, with local commerce federations and shopping centers publishing detailed hours.
