Overview

• Eastern Railway’s Sealdah division has secured Railway Board approval for the 26 km third line project between Ranaghat and Krishnanagar City.
• The project, identified under Mission 3000MT, carries an estimated cost of Rs 474.09 crore and targets a three-year completion timeline.
• Current double-line capacity at 113.8% is expected to climb to 169% by 2028-29 once the third track is operational.
• The new line will alleviate suburban congestion and accommodate rising freight volumes following Nasipur Bridge commissioning and recent goods shed additions.
• Pending formal sanction from Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the expansion seeks to enhance cross-border trade via the Gede–Darshana link to Bangladesh.
