Third-Gender Volunteers Lead Navi Mumbai Voter Drive Ahead of Jan. 15 Civic Polls

The outreach targets confusion over the first-time multi-member ward voting format.

Overview

  • Third-gender citizens conducted street-level awareness at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Arenja Corner and Sector 9 Market in Vashi, distributing leaflets and urging residents to vote.
  • The drive is part of the Election Commission’s SVEEP programme run by NMMC under Commissioner and Election Officer Dr Kailas Shinde with SVEEP Nodal Officer Dr Ajay Gadde and Deputy Commissioner (Education) Sangharatna Khillare.
  • More than 13,000 students across 21 Ghansoli schools pledged to serve as Voter Awareness Ambassadors and to discourage inducements to ensure responsible participation.
  • Over 1,100 students, teachers and parents formed a human chain in Koparkhairane on January 8 to encourage first-time and hesitant voters.
  • With multi-member wards debuting—four votes in Wards 1–27 and three in Ward 28—NMMC is intensifying education via pamphlets, banners, digital displays, cinema screenings and social media.
