Third Florida Motorcycle Deputy Dies After SUV Crash

The crash, which occurred while deputies assisted with a disabled motorcycle, has claimed the lives of three Palm Beach County officers.

Deputy Ignacio 'Dan' Diaz, 51, died Monday from injuries sustained in a Thursday crash that killed two colleagues, Cpl. Luis Paez, 58, and Deputy Ralph 'Butch' Waller, 54.
The three deputies were struck by an SUV while standing on the shoulder of Southern Boulevard near Loxahatchee, Florida, waiting for assistance with a disabled motorcycle.
The SUV driver, attempting to pass a slower vehicle, lost control, hit a guardrail, and struck the deputies, according to authorities.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office described the deputies as veteran officers with decades of service, including extensive time in the motor unit.
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash; no charges have been filed, and officials have stated that the driver did not appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
