Overview
- A coach discovered a bullet on the tennis courts on Tuesday, which led Northwest ISD to notify Northlake police, conduct a metal-detector sweep of the area, and review security footage.
- The school moved outdoor activities to the front or indoors and temporarily changed bus drop-off to the west side of the building to reduce student exposure.
- Barksdale Middle School is roughly one mile north of Quail Creek Gun Range and this marks at least the third 2026 incident after bullets struck the building’s exterior in May and a press-box window in July.
- Northwest ISD sued the range in August alleging negligence and won a temporary restraining order that bars use of guns at the range that can fire toward the school; that order remains in effect and a judge will hear new arguments on Nov. 5.
- Court filings show the range owner acknowledged bullets could be fired over the berm while the range’s attorney says the facility complies with state law and seeks to examine where the found rounds originated.
