September SSI Arrives Friday as SSA Completes August Retirement Payouts

The advance follows the rule that moves SSI to the prior business day when the first falls on a holiday.

Overview

  • September’s Supplemental Security Income will be paid on Friday, Aug. 29, with federal maximums of $967 for individuals, $1,450 for couples and $484 for essential persons.
  • The Social Security Administration finished August’s retirement cycle on Wednesday, Aug. 27, paying those born on the 21st through 31st after earlier waves on Aug. 13 and Aug. 20.
  • September retirement benefits will be issued on Sept. 10, Sept. 17 and Sept. 24, determined by birth dates in three groups.
  • Retirement benefits begin as early as age 62 and vary by age and earnings, with 2025 maximums reaching $5,108 at age 70 and about $2,831 at age 62.
  • Recipients previously identified as overpaid may see smaller deposits as the agency recoups past overpayments, reportedly withholding up to 50% in some cases.
