Overview
- David Antonio Moran, 19, also known as David Moran-Chavez, was arrested at his Norwalk apartment on charges including burning a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of fireworks, conspiracy and disturbing the peace.
- Boston police said items seized during the arrest tied Moran to the Oct. 5 South End takeover, which they described as the result of a painstaking review of body-camera and witness video.
- The takeover at Massachusetts Avenue and Tremont Street drew more than 100 people who blocked traffic and hurled objects at cruisers; a firework left on a cruiser’s hood melted the windshield and engulfed the interior, totaling the vehicle, according to a police report.
- Moran was charged in Connecticut as a fugitive from justice, his bond was set at $500,000, he is due in a Connecticut court on Dec. 18, and he is expected to be extradited to face proceedings in Boston.
- Two Rhode Island teens were previously arrested in the case, and police say the active investigation involves regional partners as officials track a coordinated street takeover network across New England.
