Thief: The Dark Project Remastered Sets December 3 Release

The remaster pairs Nightdive’s KEX Engine visual and performance upgrades with official adoption of a fan-made campaign, built-in mod support, and multiple collector-focused physical editions.

Overview

  • Publishers Atari, Nightdive Studios, and Eidos‑Montréal announced Monday, November 2 that Thief: The Dark Project Remastered will launch on December 3, 2026 with pre-orders now live for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, and PC on Steam, Epic and GOG.
  • The package bundles the original 1998 game, the 1999 Thief: Gold content, and a new fan-created campaign called The Tarnished Mirror that developers have accepted as official canon.
  • Nightdive rebuilt the game on its KEX Engine and listed technical upgrades including up to 4K/120 fps visuals, improved textures and animations, motion/gyro and rumble controls, trophies, small level fixes, a weapon/item wheel, and a mission selector.
  • Multiple editions and prices are confirmed, with a $30 standard digital copy, a $35 digital deluxe, a $40 steelbook, and a $70 Deluxe Trapezoid collector edition, and PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 physical runs to be distributed by Clear River Games with physical versions playable on the original Switch.
  • The remaster includes built-in support for custom campaigns and player mods, explicitly supporting the notable Black Parade fan expansion, a move that preserves community work and could extend the game’s lifespan by encouraging new player-made content.
