Thief: The Dark Project Remastered Set for December 3 Release

Nightdive’s KEX Engine rebuild brings 4K/120fps performance, mod support, an officially integrated fan-made campaign.

Overview

  • Atari, Nightdive Studios and Eidos‑Montréal announced pre-orders on Monday, November 2, and confirmed the remaster will release on December 3 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, Switch, PS4 and PC (Steam, Epic and GOG).
  • The game is rebuilt on Nightdive’s KEX Engine to run up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second and adds modern controller support, a weapon/item wheel, mission replay and other quality‑of‑life fixes.
  • The package includes the original 12 missions from Thief: The Dark Project, the three Thief: Gold missions and a new narrative campaign called The Tarnished Mirror that was created by the authors of the fan expansion The Black Parade and accepted into official canon.
  • Pre-orders are live across digital stores with a Standard digital edition and a Digital Deluxe tier, and physical Standard, Steelbook and Deluxe Trapezoid editions are available with Clear River Games handling PS5 and Switch 2 distribution at retail; prices range from about $30 to $70 depending on the edition.
  • The release marks the original Thief’s first appearance on Xbox, preserves mod compatibility so existing community work can run alongside the remaster, and underscores a rare developer move to fold a major fan project into a licensed release which may boost collector demand and set a precedent for community collaboration.
