The Witcher 3 Remastered Relaunch Draws Praise and Fast Fixes

An initial hotfix fixed DLSS and adjusted lighting as the studio continues investigating save errors, HairWorks slowdowns and platform parity.

Overview

  • CD Projekt Red released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered as a free upgrade on Sept. 29, 2026, and early reviews were strongly positive, lifting the game to about a 94 Metacritic score.
  • The relaunch pushed Steam concurrent players past 120,000, creating a new peak and driving heavy play across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2.
  • Players reported noticeable changes to the game's look and several technical problems, including brighter, sometimes 'washed‑out' lighting, PC crashes and slowdowns linked to NVIDIA HairWorks, DLSS faults, and console framerate or HDR issues.
  • On Oct. 1 CD Projekt Red released Patch 5.00b (5.000.200) to restore DLSS on the Xbox Play Anywhere PC build and to adjust lighting and interior parity, and the developer says it is still working on fixes for saving and HairWorks performance.
  • Switch 2 owners found an entitlement loophole that uses an original Switch cartridge to claim a persistent digital remaster copy for multiple consoles, and CDPR has not indicated whether that behavior will be changed as it readies the paid 2027 expansion and development toward Witcher IV.
