"The Who’s Tommy" Rock Opera to Make Broadway Comeback in Spring 2024

Original creators Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff return to reassemble and re-imagine the hit rock opera, following a record-breaking run at Chicago's Goodman Theatre, with previews starting from March 8, 2024.

  • The rock opera 'The Who's Tommy,' based on the 1969 rock opera by The Who, is set to return to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre in spring 2024, with previews beginning March 8 and the official opening night set for March 28.
  • Original creators Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff are reassembling for this production, following a successful run at Chicago's Goodman Theatre where it broke records as the highest-grossing production.
  • The story, which revolves around Tommy Walker who is traumatized after witnessing his father murder his rival and ultimately gains recognition for his pinball skills, is being revisited to reflect on the evolution of our understanding of mental health.
  • The updated 'The Who's Tommy' is being produced by Stephen Gabriel and Ira Pittelman. The Broadway casting, to be announced later, is by Tara Rubin Casting/Merri Sugarman, CSA with additional Chicago casting by Lauren Port and Rachael Jimenez, CSA.
  • The creative team of the revival includes several celebrated artists and experts such as choreographer Lorin Latarro, music director Rick Fox, set designer David Korins, costume designer Sarafina Bush, and wig and hair designer Charles LaPointe.
