The Weeknd Donates $2.5M to Feed Palestinians in Gaza
Donation Provides Four Million Meals, Funding 820 Metric Tons of Food Parcels
- The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, has donated $2.5 million to the World Food Program USA to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
- The donation equates to four million emergency meals and will fund 820 metric tons of food parcels that could feed more than 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks.
- The food parcels include fresh bread, fortified date bars, canned food, wheat flour, pasta, tomato paste and oil.
- The Weeknd has been a United Nations World Food Programme Goodwill Ambassador since October 2021 and has personally donated $1.8M to WFP's global hunger-relief mission through his XO Humanitarian Fund.
- WFP has provided food assistance to more than 764,000 Palestinians since Oct. 7 and has reached more than 121,000 people since the most recent humanitarian pause.
