Overview
- The three-night A Drugcember to Remember run at Johnny Brenda’s wrapped Dec. 20 with a rare onstage reunion between co-founder Kurt Vile and Adam Granduciel alongside guest Joe Walsh.
- On the final night, Vile helped perform Arms Like Boulders plus covers of Bill Fay’s Pictures of Adolf Again and R.E.M.’s Country Feedback.
- Walsh joined the band on Dec. 19 and returned Dec. 20 for Rocky Mountain Way, In the City, and The War on Drugs’ Under the Pressure.
- Earlier sets featured Real Estate’s Martin Courtney covering Gene Clark and Lou Reed on Thursday and The Hold Steady’s Craig Finn delivering two solo songs and Bob Dylan’s Sweetheart Like You on Friday.
- The residency, launched in 2018 at the intimate Fishtown venue, raises money for The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia and reflects the band’s deep ties to Johnny Brenda’s.
