The Sims 4 Releases February Update Overhauling Family Trees, Adding New Build Tools

Developers caution mod users to strip genealogy-related mods due to core system changes.

Overview

  • The free base-game patch went live on February 3, positioning the update to integrate with the forthcoming Royalty & Legacy expansion.
  • Family trees now recognize more relationships, such as half-siblings and step-parents, with additional functionality unlocked for players who own Royalty & Legacy.
  • Build Mode gains granular stair and railing options, including side-specific railings, adjustable railing length, and stairs that flare at the bottom.
  • Create-A-Sim updates reorganize hair texture filters and add an Africana style tag, while the base game receives a new set of nail designs.
  • Wide-ranging fixes address black photos, crashes when creating or editing Mermaids or Aliens, room type assignment issues, CAS UI display problems, scenario-related UI loss, and other stability bugs, with guidance to remove and wait to reinstall affected mods to avoid save or launch issues.
