- The People's Joker, a queer coming-of-age parody of the Joker's origin story, has secured a North American theatrical release with Altered Innocence, set to open at the IFC Center in New York City on April 5, 2024.
- The film, directed, edited, co-written and starred in by Vera Drew, was initially pulled from the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022 due to rights issues with DC Comics and Warner Bros.
- The People's Joker features cameos from Tim Heidecker, Bob Odenkirk, Maria Bamford and Scott Aukerman, and was partly financed by crowdfunding.
- Shot entirely on green screen, the film features the work of over 200 independent, predominantly queer artists, musicians, and animators using 2D, 3D, stop-motion, and more forms of animation.
- The film's release officially states that it is in no way created by, endorsed by, or affiliated with DC Comics or any of its related companies.
