‘The Girl From Ipanema’ singer Astrud Gilberto, 83, dies

Astrud Gilberto became famous for singing “The Girl From Ipanema” and helping popularize bossa nova music.
Her rendition of “The Girl From Ipanema” won a Grammy in 1965 and has sold over 27 million copies.
Gilberto recorded 16 studio albums and two live records over her decades-long career before retiring from music in 2002.
In her later years, Gilberto dedicated herself to animal rights activism and visual art.
Gilberto leaves behind two sons, Gregory and Marcelo, and two granddaughters.
