The Cure Confirm Perry Bamonte’s Death at 65 After Brief Illness

A former technician turned key contributor, he shaped The Cure’s studio sound as well as live shows across decades.

  • The band said he died at home during the Christmas period following a brief illness and offered condolences to his family.
  • Bamonte joined the group as a technician in the mid-1980s and became a full member in 1990 on guitar, six-string bass and keyboards.
  • He recorded on Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits and The Cure, and played more than 400 shows over 14 years.
  • After rejoining in 2022, he performed roughly 90 additional concerts, including the 1 November 2024 Show Of A Lost World in London tied to Songs Of A Lost World.
  • The Cure’s future appearances remain on public schedules, including a 14 June 2026 date at Florence’s Visarno Arena for Firenze Rocks.
