Overview
- The Leaf Label announced the three‑LP box set Tuesday and said it will be released on November 20 across digital formats, CD, cassette and limited vinyl.
- Exploding In Slow Motion: The Complete Channel the Spirits Recordings 2013‑2017CE collects the Mercury‑shortlisted debut album with the Prophecy and Death To The Planet EPs, session tracks, live renditions and four previously unreleased recordings.
- A previously unreleased 2013 recording, “Late Night Party Jam 2,” was released online Tuesday as a preview of the archival material.
- The Comet Is Coming have been disbanded since 2023, so the package functions as a preservation of the trio’s early work rather than a relaunch of the band; lead member Shabaka Hutchings has continued with solo projects.
- The set preserves sessions made at London’s Total Refreshment Centre and other rarities that helped define the group’s blend of free jazz, afrobeat, electronica and psychedelia and that contributed to the debut’s cultural impact.
