'The Color Purple' Reimagined: Fantasia Barrino Stars in Revival of Iconic Story

Directed by Blitz Bazawule and produced by Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones, and Oprah Winfrey, the film is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2023.

Fantasia Barrino stars in the Blitz Bazawule-directed reimagining of 'The Color Purple', reprising her role as Celie from her Broadway debut in 2007.
The film is a revival of the story made iconic in the 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, the 1985 Warner Bros. Pictures film, and the Tony Award-winning stage musical.
Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones, and Oprah Winfrey serve as producers on the film, marking a full-circle moment as Spielberg directed the original film adaptation, Winfrey made her film debut in it, and Jones produced.
The film also stars Danielle Brooks as Sofia, Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery, and a star-studded cast including Colman Domingo, H.E.R., and Ciara.
'The Color Purple' is set to open in theaters on December 25, 2023.
