Overview

  • The Chinese Room has laid off an unknown number of employees following LinkedIn posts from at least nine former staffers referencing redundancy.
  • The layoffs stem from Sumo Group’s February 2025 strategy to exit original game development and position Sumo Digital as a co-development service provider.
  • Paradox Interactive confirmed that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 remains scheduled for an October 2025 launch despite recent staffing changes.
  • Sumo Group acknowledged that members of its Content & Communications team were also impacted by the restructuring but did not disclose a specific timeline for those cuts.
  • The Chinese Room, acquired by Sumo in 2018 and known for Dear Esther and Still Wakes the Deep, has managed multiple delays on Bloodlines 2 since taking over development in 2021.
