Laura Lynch, a founding member of the country music band The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, has died in a car crash at the age of 65.
The accident occurred on Friday near El Paso, Texas, when another vehicle attempted to pass on a two-way highway and collided head-on with Lynch's car.
Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Lynch co-founded the band in 1989 and played upright bass and sang on the band's first three albums before leaving in 1995.
The Chicks, who changed their name in 2020 in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, expressed their shock and sadness at Lynch's passing in a social media post.
