'The Boy and the Heron' Scores BAFTA Nomination, Breaks Box Office Records

Despite international acclaim, the Studio Ghibli film misses out on Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 nominations due to late international release.

Studio Ghibli's 'The Boy and the Heron' has been nominated for the 2024 BAFTA Awards for Best Animated Film, following its recent win at the Golden Globes.
The film has grossed $154 million USD to date, making it Hayao Miyazaki’s highest-grossing title ever in the UK and Ireland, and the top-grossing original anime film ever released in North America and Japan.
The film has also achieved record-breaking success in Italy and Germany, becoming the highest grossing anime in Italy within its first week of release and achieving the third-highest opening weekend of all time for an anime title in Germany.
Despite its international success and accolades, 'The Boy and the Heron' failed to secure any nominations for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards 2024 due to its release date outside Japan, which was after the awards' eligibility cut-off.
The film is still screening in select theaters across the United States and continues to generate buzz in the entertainment industry.
