Thanksgiving Turkey and Meal Giveaways Roll Out in Chicago, Austin and El Paso

Organizers cite heightened demand following a recent SNAP payment pause.

Overview

  • Chicago distributions were scheduled to begin Nov. 22, including Discover’s event at the Shine Bright Community Center with 2,500 turkeys and fresh food available while supplies last.
  • Iglesia Pacto Nueva Vida del Sureste planned to serve 500 families on Nov. 22, with additional Chicago sites run by the Council of Islamic Organizations and Roseland Community Hospital operating on a first-come basis.
  • Austin’s lineup runs through Nov. 27, with Operation Turkey set to hand out 3,000 meals at Juliet Italian Kitchen, plus Bethany United Methodist Church offering 300 meals on Nov. 23.
  • El Paso events include 250 turkeys at Centro San Vicente on Nov. 25, a distribution at the Consulate General of Mexico that day with one turkey per family, and a Charlie Clark Nissan giveaway on Nov. 27 until stock runs out.
  • Many sites require advance registration, valid ID, or proof of residency or need, and most distributions will continue only until supplies are exhausted.
