Thanksgiving Gas Prices Expected to Reach Lowest Level Since 2020

Decreasing oil prices and lower gas demand contribute to falling gas prices, potentially benefiting millions of Thanksgiving travelers.

  • Gas prices nationwide have been decreasing for weeks and are expected to continue falling, potentially reaching sub-$3 levels by the end of the year.
  • The national average gas price dropped to $3.33, down from $3.39 last week, $3.58 a month ago and $3.73 a year ago.
  • Mississippi has the cheapest gas in the country as of Friday, averaging $2.81 a gallon, followed by Texas, where gas is $2.83, and Georgia, where the average is $2.84.
  • The most expensive gas in the country can be found in California ($5.02), Hawaii ($4.74) and Washington ($4.46).
  • AAA projects just over 49 million Americans will drive to their destinations this Thanksgiving, up 1.7% from 2022.
