Thanksgiving Gas Prices Expected to Hit Lowest Level in Years

As demand slows and supplies increase, 11 states already report averages below $3 per gallon with more expected to join by the holiday.

The national average of gas prices could drop to the lowest level around Thanksgiving in years, with the average national price of gas reported to be about $3.31 per gallon, a nearly 10 percent decrease from last year's average.
11 states currently have a below $3 a gallon average, with an additional five states predicted to see gas prices below $3 a gallon by Thanksgiving.
Gas prices have fallen for nine weeks now and are on the longest downward streak since the summer of 2022.
Despite falling gas prices, about 20% of respondents to a GasBuddy's travel survey said they could not fit holiday travel into their budget due to other areas of inflation.
AAA is expecting most of Thanksgiving travelers to get to their locations by car, predicting that there could be about 49.1 million drivers on the road traveling to make it to their holiday plans.
