Thanksgiving Dinner Costs Decline but Remain High Compared to Pre-Pandemic Levels
Decrease in turkey prices contributes to lower costs, but some items like pumpkin pie mix and sweet potatoes see a price increase.
- Thanksgiving dinner for 10 will cost $61.17 this year, a 4.5% decline from last year's record-high of $64.05, but still 25% more than in 2019.
- The price drop is largely due to the falling price of a 16-pound frozen turkey, which will account for 45% of the total Thanksgiving meal cost this year at a price of $27.35, down 5.6% from 2022.
- Other items that will cost less this year include whipping cream (down 22.8%), cranberries (down 18.3%), cubed stuffing (down 2.8%) and frozen peas (down 1.1%).
- Pumpkin pie mix (up 3.8%), dinner rolls (up 2.9%) and sweet potatoes (up 0.3%) will cost consumers a little more than in 2022.
- People in the Northeast will pay the most for their Thanksgiving meal ($64.38 on average) and people in the Midwest will spend the least at $58.66.
