Thane Police Arrest Mother-Son Duo in Series of Burglaries, Recover Nearly ₹11 Lakh

Hundreds of CCTV cameras alongside technical intelligence traced the suspects’ movements across Thane before their arrest.

  • On July 25, Naupada police detained 45-year-old Puja Dilip Gupta and her 20-year-old son Ganesh Dilip Gupta for their alleged roles in multiple house-breaking incidents across Thane city.
  • Investigators reviewed footage from around 100 CCTV cameras and relied on informant tips to map the duo’s movements through key areas including the railway station, Talavpali and Chandanwadi.
  • Officers first apprehended Ganesh near Diva creek on July 17 after a two-night surveillance operation and a brief chase, and his interrogation led to his mother’s involvement.
  • Police seized about 100 grams of gold ornaments, 2.5 kilograms of silver articles and jewellery, ₹40,000 in cash and other items collectively valued at ₹10.99 lakh.
  • A case under sections 305 and 331 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against the pair and investigators are probing their wider network and resale plans.
