Thane Police Arrest Alleged Serial Fraudster in Rs 27.5 Lakh Jeweller Cheque Scam

Investigators traced Tarkeshwar Gorakhnath Pandey to a Thane hotel after weeks of evasion across multiple cities.

  • Police apprehended Tarkeshwar Gorakhnath Pandey, also known as Rohit Pandey, on November 27 at a Thane hotel and handed him to Bhayandar police.
  • He allegedly contacted a 57-year-old jeweller in July through an online real estate listing for a flat and presented a cheque of Rs 66 lakh as an advance.
  • Using the cheque to build credibility, he obtained 249.350 grams of gold jewellery valued at Rs 27.5 lakh, then ordered a stop-payment and vanished.
  • Bhayandar police registered a case on September 16 under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 318(4) for cheating and 316(2) for criminal breach of trust.
  • Officials describe him as a habitual offender with multiple cheating cases in Thane and Mumbai, including matters dating back to 2000.
