Thane Police and Civic Officials Suspended for Extortion

Five members of a flying squad, including police officers, were suspended for extorting money from businessmen ahead of Maharashtra elections.

Two Thane police officers and three civic officials were suspended for extorting ₹85,000 from businessmen in Ulhasnagar.
The incident involved a flying squad on poll duty intercepting a car carrying cash meant for flower purchases during Dussehra.
The accused threatened the businessmen with FIRs and confiscation of their cash, violating the model code of conduct for upcoming elections.
An FIR was lodged against the five under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including extortion and disobeying the law.
Despite the case being registered, no arrests have been made yet, and a new team has been assigned to oversee the area.
