Thane Metro Lines 4/4A Complete First Trial Run as Mumbai Prepares to Open Line 3’s Final Stretch

The trials advance the Thane corridor toward safety clearance ahead of a targeted December phase-one opening.

Overview

  • The first trial run covered roughly 10 km between Cadbury Junction and Kasarvadavali, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspecting the priority stretch.
  • Lines 4 and 4A together span 35.2 km with 32 elevated stations and eight-coach trains, supported by a 45-hectare depot under construction at Mogharpada for Lines 4, 4A, 10 and 11.
  • MMRDA moves next to Independent Safety Assessor reviews and mandatory CMRS approvals before passenger service, with phase one targeted for December 2025.
  • Leaders cited expectations of about 13–14 lakh daily riders initially and roughly 21 lakh after integration with Line 11 by 2027, alongside projected 50–75% cuts in travel time.
  • Separately, the final 9 km of the fully underground Metro Line 3 is scheduled for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 30, completing the 33.5 km Aqua Line from Aarey to Cuffe Parade.
