Overview

  • The Thane Chief Judicial Magistrate S.K. Fokmare accepted the CBI’s June 2025 closure report in the Bazarpeth police extortion case after investigators found no corroborative proof.
  • This ruling follows an earlier CBI closure of the Kopri police FIR in January 2024 and marks the second of five complaints shifted to the CBI after the Shinde-Fadnavis government took office.
  • The CBI highlighted delayed reporting, voluntary settlements and the absence of independent evidence as factors weakening the credibility of the 2015–16 extortion allegations.
  • Former ACP Bhimrao Ghadge’s claim that Singh and DCP Parag Manere demanded ₹20 crore during a dispute could not be substantiated by property records or witness statements.
  • The other three FIRs, originally filed under the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, pertain to alleged misconduct in Thane and Kalyan and remain under CBI scrutiny.
