Overview

  • Authorities enforced a heavy vehicle ban from August 8 to 10 along Ghodbunder Road’s Gaimukh Ghat section and rerouted trucks via Kapurbawdi, Kasheli, Majiwada, Kharegaon, Mankoli and Anjur Phata.
  • Crews have removed the road surface down to its base before grouting with water bound macadam, laying asphalt and applying mastication in an effort to prevent potholes from recurring.
  • Mumbra-Kharegaon and Thane-Ghodbunder commuters have faced hour-long delays on stretches that typically take 10–20 minutes due to ongoing repair work.
  • Past fixes on the NH-48 Mira RoadPalghar stretch, including a ₹600 crore white topping in 2003 and June’s embedding of 10,000 concrete blocks, failed to yield lasting road stability.
  • At least one fatality linked to delayed ambulance access has highlighted safety risks from chronic road neglect and gridlock.
