Thailand Orders Seizure of Influencer’s Lioness After Attack as Owner Is Charged

The case invokes Article 15 with penalties of up to six months in jail or a 50,000‑baht fine.

Overview

  • A one-year-old lioness kept by influencer Parinya Parkpoom broke free on Oct. 4 in Kanchanaburi and injured an 11-year-old boy and a 43-year-old neighbor before being recaptured.
  • The victims, identified as Arthit Nueangnui and Sarawut Tokaeo, were treated at a hospital, with the boy sustaining a serious right-hip injury and the man suffering an arm injury.
  • Environment ministry officials, led by DNP director-general Attapol Charoenchansa, ordered the animal seized and transferred to a wildlife care centre.
  • Videos shared by the owner show forest officials sedating the lioness and removing it from the residence.
  • Authorities charged the owner under Thailand’s wildlife law for releasing a wild animal in his care, and local reports say he apologized and agreed to cover medical costs.
