Thailand and Cambodia Sign Immediate Ceasefire With ASEAN Monitors

ASEAN observers are tasked with verifying compliance with the truce.

Overview

  • The governments signed a Joint Declaration ordering an immediate halt to hostilities from noon local time on December 27 following a special border committee meeting at the Prum–Ban Pak Kard crossing.
  • The agreement mandates a stop to all weapons fire in all areas, explicitly covering attacks on civilians, civilian infrastructure and military assets.
  • Both sides agreed to freeze forces in their current positions, bar new troop deployments along the frontier and leave existing international boundaries unaffected by the truce.
  • The deal strengthens the ASEAN Observer Group’s mandate, creates bilateral border coordination units, and establishes direct lines between defense ministries and military headquarters for rapid incident response.
  • The package includes joint demining coordination and measures to curb false or misleading information, and it follows a Thai-confirmed F-16 strike on a Cambodian village during the final days of talks.
