Thai Woman Discovers Needle Left in Her Body for 18 Years

A needle accidentally left in a woman's vagina during childbirth has caused her severe pain for nearly two decades, with surgery still pending.

A 36-year-old woman from Thailand's Narathiwat province has endured severe abdominal pain since a needle was left in her vagina during childbirth 18 years ago.
The needle was accidentally dropped by a nurse and could not be retrieved by the doctor at the time due to concerns over excessive bleeding.
An X-ray in 2023 revealed the presence of the needle, but surgery to remove it has been postponed multiple times as it continues to move inside her body.
The woman, who faces financial strain due to frequent hospital visits, receives assistance from the Pavena Foundation for Children and Women.
It remains uncertain whether the woman will pursue legal action against the hospital or medical staff for the error.
